The GeeBirth

A future Canton inductee is done. Peyton Manning is now a Denver Bronco, but for now, his legacy will be known with the Indianapolis Colts; that’s why I chose to paint him as a Colt. His leadership, philanthropy, and record setting tenure with Indy is timeless, and I hope this painting follows suit by capturing a football legend with his first team. Good luck in Denver Peyton!!!

PS - GO NINERS! and good luck to Tim Tebow in NY.

Quarter back-keeper! But who’s keeping this quarterback in 2012? Paying (<—-hint) a little homage to one of the NFL’s greats with a new piece. Stay tuned world……

Prepping up for THE SHOWDOWN on Saatchi Online (the site where you can now view and buy my artwork) which is an online contest where artists go head to head and the winner is voted in by the masses (yes you can vote) and then his/her work is diplayed in the Saatchi Museum in London, England - awesome! The theme is abstract and so tonight I thought I’d warm up and start with good ol’ pastel. I was aiming to be loose but wanted to lock everything up at the same time w some structure, and…I..don’t…know..why…. Anyway, I thought this turned out pretty good. I’m going to do one or 2 more pieces of abstract before I submit to The Showdown. Let me know which one you’d like to be submitted. Stay tuned. Go visit my Saatchi Online page while you’re at it - http://www.saatchionline.com/garettmalate

The Ghost in the Machine by Erika Iris Simmons

“The Ghost in the Machine” series was inspired by some strange ideas. How at one level we are cellular beings and another we are a single “self.” The single cassette tape I thought of as representing the mind. The tape ribbon represents our thoughts, the data within. Taking that data – those bits of memory – and rearranging them to form what we see as a face is my way of finding a “ghost in the machine.” I also liked the fact that when you look at a portrait like Jimi Hendrix out of a cassette tape, you can almost hear the music in your head – so your own “data” is responding to what you see.

Good stuff!

Another installment of “The Naked Chick” series. This time I chose to use some color instead of just ink wash. These pieces are all about positive and negative space and the lines they create. This was a house warming gift for one of my good mates. Hoping she will keep my pal company for a while ahah!!!

Worked on a buddy’s house warming gift last night and I’m pretty happy with it. Thought I did okay with being loose and open with colors and lines. For some reason I feel this is a challenge for me as far as “looseness.” This piece is another installment of the Naked Chick series of mine. Haven’t given it to him yet but here’s a sneak peak. Full pick coming soon.

Finished another Predator pencil piece. I just love this character (Thank you Stan Winston and James Cameron!). Everyone seems to forget about the smaller comic companies like Darkhorse Comics which prints Predator comics and graphic novels. So I thought I’d make the small guy beat the crap out of the big guys - Marvel and DC - with this piece by completely blowing them all to heck and having their most prized characters as trophies (excuse the run on sentence). IMO if it came down to it, Predator can easily kick the crap out of Spidey, and in this piece Predator is wearing a kryptonite ring (like Batman does) and has a kryptonite powered shoulder canon to bend the Man-of-Steel out of shape. Maybe I’ll ink and color this some day so this all can be seen.

Side Note - Batman is better than Superman.
